“What
should I eat?” This was one of
the most common questions I would hear over
my many years as a practicing physician. I commonly witnessed that even the
most intelligent individuals with the greatest intentions would struggle with
this simple question.
For many of us,
especially in the USA, the topic of food, nutrition, body image and health has
become so confusing. There is always a new pill or fad diet that is supposed to
be the best. We read or hear things like:
“I was on South Beach but now I’m
gluten-free Paleo.”
What does that
even mean?!
It is my intent to share what I have come to know and understand for
myself in regards to food and how it relates to nutrition, health, body image
and overall wellness on a micro-to-macro scale. These days information is put
out at such a rapid pace that it can be difficult and even overwhelming to
filter through and decipher what is accurate and truthful for you.
In this series we will explore the topic of food in order to become more
informed, empowered and consciously aware as we now make self-referenced and
self-directed choices. Meaning, we look to ourselves and inside ourselves for
the answer to “what should I eat?”
Clarifying the concepts surrounding this topic and re-evaluating our
current definitions, beliefs and relationship with food will allow for a more
palatable means to digest the barrage of information out there. We will become
equipped with the recognition of our knowingness to confidently choose for ourselves what is best.
With this acknowledgement of our inner knowing - great health, wellness and vitality can begin to organically flourish. Our inner biology is designed to work effortlessly when
we are in a state of balance and harmony. It is inherent in our make-up to be
naturally self- regulating, self-organizing, self-healing and self-renewing. As
we come into balance and harmony with ourselves this state of being may then
translate to our environment, our community, our planet and beyond. This is
BioSymbiotic Living and Being.
Living and being in biological symbiosis refers to a balanced, sustainable
system by which all life exists in an interdynamic, interconnected
harmonious flow.
Symbiosis: “While historically,
symbiosis has received less attention than other interactions such as predation or competition, it is
increasingly recognized as an important selective force behind evolution, with
many species having a long history of interdependent co-evolution.”
“The biologist Lynn
Margulis, famous for her work on endosymbiosis, contends that
symbiosis is a major driving force behind evolution. She considers Darwin's notion of evolution,
driven by competition, to be incomplete and claims that evolution is strongly
based on co-operation, interaction, and mutual dependence among organisms.” According to Margulis and Dorion Saga, "Life did not take over the
globe by combat, but by networking."

So let’s take these ideas, put them together and make them real, make them
applicable and make them usable today.
We will organize this series in a structural pattern that will allow the
information to naturally integrate while underscoring the material with an
expanded viewpoint of the micro-to-macro connections.
ü The concepts and
definitions surrounding food
ü The inner
workings and our relationship with food
ü The action steps
to establishing a symbiotic system
As we develop our inner knowingness we can then confidently apply this
structural format in our daily lives when we are making choices for ourselves, our
families, our communities...
Please join me in this exploration as we begin to recognize
the vast network of connections between our physical bodies, the planet and beyond.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
