The Dynamic Relationship
We Hold With Food
What would a snap
shot image of your relationship with food look like?
Do you shove food
in your mouth and swallow as you rush out the door?
Are your meals
eaten in front of the television or while reading the news?
Do you eat while
holding thoughts, fears or worries about food making fat or sick?
Do you wait to
eat until you feel ravenous and then just chow down
on whatever you can get
your hands on?
How does this
feel?
What is happening
biochemically and energetically when we hold this “fight or flight” posture consuming food?
Our approach and communion with food is reflective of our relationship
with ourselves and internal environment. If we approach food in terms of dieting or place titles on
“ways of eating”, it directs our focus outside of ourselves versus tapping inward to
our feelings, guidance system and our inner communication signals. Our whole
approach then becomes dis-empowering and displaces our responsibility onto an
outside source.... relinquishing power and diverting responsibility.
Health comes from within which logically indicates that looking to our
inner compass for direction only makes sense.
Every individual is completely unique and different. Only you can truly
know what you and your body needs at any given moment.
How exactly
does this work?
The answer is simple. As humans we were designed with an inner “GPS”
system. It is our innate guidance system. This inner biological mechanism uses
our tool of feeling to signal if we are heading in the right direction or,
conversely, will alert us if we need to course correct. These signals come in
the form of feelings and emotions. Feels good or
feels not good. By simply quieting down, drawing focus inward and feeling
what we are signaling to ourselves we can become consciously aware of what information is being relayed. As we do this, pay attention to what comes
up.
You are already receiving guidance and answers to your questions. Just
listen and feel.
However, for the entire “tool system” to function optimally the user needs
to respond with appropriate action. Which means, if something feels bad or not
good, a course correction is advisable versus ignoring the signal and later wonder
why you feel bad. It is imperative to also hold clear your true feelings
without judgment or allowing confusion from mind chatter or outdated beliefs to
cloud the messages being received. We will dive much deeper into
this topic during future discussions.
For now…
Feels
good? Feels
not good?
Well what about
organic food? Is it not healthier for us?
Are fresh fruits and vegetables not
better than canned or processed foods? Is it true that certain foods contain
healing properties?
Yes, I hear and understand all of these questions. And yes, yes – eating
an array of fresh, organic foods that are grown locally and are in their
natural state seems like a good option. But why might this be true?
Remember, nutrition in the form of food is information! What is being held
within this food that would be intimately shared within you if eaten? And, from
this perspective, does it make sense why some people could experience a healing
effect from one thing while another person may not? It is not necessarily the
food/nutrient alone but a combination of all the other factors that we have been
discussing.
We now understand there is a deeper connection and interaction happening
as we eat. So, how do you want your relationship with food to feel and look?
Instead of using food as some means to satisfy a primal need what if it was
approached as a beautiful act of communion in which to joyously and lovingly engage?
So now, as we sit down for a meal with our clear intention set for the
communication and information exchange in which we are actively and consciously
participating, how might our new experience look and feel?
Remember- It is all up to you. You decide each and every experience.
Intend for it to be so.
In our future conversations we will take this topic even further. For now,
let us continue onward. Time for Action!
Now when you read or hear things from your doctor, the news or a friend
you are informed and empowered to accept it or reject it based on how it feels
or resonates with you.
Example:
You read in a
magazine that this protein shake is good and healthy for you.
What do you do?
Stop! Check in with the one being who knows you best.
YOU!
·- What information is held within this shake? (FEEL the answers to these
questions versus thinking the answers)
·- Does it feel good for you?
·- Imagine how you would feel ingesting this shake… having
that information enter, merge and interact with each and every one of your cells.
These are some of the navigational questions to ask yourself as you become
consciously aware of your connection with food and how it relates to health,
body image and being in balanced harmony with life.
This is the starting line for shifting our perspectives when it comes to
food. Expanding our understanding of this concept of food (and all that surrounds
it) - the importance of Your Connection with Your Own Innate Intelligence allows for Empowered Choice to become more easily apparent.
Remember, this is a process. So be gentle with yourself, skills take time to master. Enjoy the experience of getting to know You.

Bring Love to the table!
I love your approach Carolyn. Sometimes it is not so much what we eat that matters but more the energy (thoughts and emotions) that we put behind what we eat. Becoming aware of our relationship with food is definitely a must!
